CHMOD Guide

For those of you that already know what CHMOD"ing" is but sometimes forgets the order, you can copy down this table. (This is for users that use free FTP programs that don't CHMOD the numbers automatically.. you have to type them in manually.)

Number Permission Level
0 -None (the equivalent of a dash)
1 -Executable, but cannot read or write
2 -Write only, cannot read or execute
3 -Write and Execute
4 -Read-only
5 -Read-only and Execute
6 -Read, Write, but cannot execute
7 -Read, Write and Execute


Owner - Group - Others

some examples

a "655" would mean that the Owner can Read, Write but Cannot execute, and the Group can read and execute.

A "764" would mean that the Owner has all rights (can read, write and execute) the Group can only read and write, and the Others can only read.
